Sixty Three

That’s the mileage for my virtual tour of the Tour de Whatcom(TDW) routes that I am riding this summer due to the covid-19 induced cancellation of the TDW reality ride. It was 63 miles and after about the first 40 miles I was feeling every one of those miles. I recently rode the 20 & 40 routes and then last week rode another 50 mile loop out in the county so I was feeling pretty good about 63 miles. So…Continue Reading

Burley 2.0

A few weeks ago I looked around my garage searching for space to hang one more just one more bike. I paused for only a moment before grabbing down my Kona Dew.  It’s rare that a bike leaves my garage for a new how, but I’m out of space and seeing that the Burley Runabout and the Kona Dew serve mostly the same purpose, that purpose being my hop on and do anything bike, I considered letting one of them…Continue Reading

Haggen to Haggen Revised

Over last summer, and even a bit through winter, this loop became one of my goto loops.  I can ride it from my house or it’s almost as easy doing from the Haggen parking lot.  It’s basically a loop through Ferndale via Smith & Noon roads and then hitting as many trails/paths as I can link together to bring me back to Ferndale. What keeps me coming back to this loop is that it is a good workout with hills…Continue Reading

Haggen to Haggen Loop – cont’d

Last week’s Haggen to Haggen Loop ride was a bit of a bust.  It’s been several months and several hundred miles of riding since I’ve last had a flat, so three in one ride was just time to pack it in and try another day. So today, with a fresh tube and patch kit in my pack, I set out for another attempt and that attempt was a success. This is a nice loop because it’s not just 30 miles…Continue Reading

Binge Worthy

I admit that I am binging a bit on the North Lake Whatcom area.   Although there are wonders to be found there, what make this area binge worthy for me is the tremendous workout it offers straight out of the box.  From the upper parking lot there seems to be nothing but steep uphill for the first few miles, in fact the parking lot itself even slopes uphill a bit.  I’ve hiked up and down this section several times and…Continue Reading

Whitey’s First Ride

Got Whitey together and serviced enough to take him for a ride today.  Did my Mixed Loop Route in Ferndale, along the Nooksack River.  It’s my goto local ride and a good place for a first ride.  Mostly because if something goes desperately wrong it’s an easy walk or an easy call for help, but secondly it has a bit of everything, pavement, gravel, sand, usually mud, and even a few roots. Whitey turned out to be the bike I hoped he…Continue Reading
