Seahawks 2017

I gotta say that I am more than a little disappointed in how the Seahawks franchise, as well as the NFL, is handling the whole kneel during the National Anthem fad.  People fought and died to establish our nation with participatory government.  More people fought and died ending slavery allowing Blacks a say in that participatory government.  Whether you are black white blue male female or other, get off your knees, stand in honor of our nation built on participation, and get out there and participate in our participatory government.  People who protest instead of participating tear at the very fabric of our nation and it is tough for me to summon any respect for their decision.

It’s sad because I like watching the Seahawks, but I sure as heck am not going to be complicit in their anti-American behavior by watching an NFL game. Fortunately I have a plan.

I plan to ride, rather than watch football, until the teams come to their senses.

In addition, this whole thing is really a matter of employers telling their employees how they will represent the company to their customers.  It is really not a free speech issue.

In other words, the NFL and/or individual NFL teams have a right to tell their players how they will act in front of the fans before, during, or after the games, or in fact any other time that they are on the job.

Yep, it really is that simple.

Poor as my writing might be, I still like to write. I’ve written a blog or two in the past, but at one point or another they each became a chore rather than a joyful pastime. C.S. Lewis said, regarding writing, “Write about what really interests you, whether it is real things or imaginary things, and nothing else.” I will be following Lewis’ advice so this blog, which bears my name, will remain a joyful pastime. Hope you like bikes.

No football for me this week either, but I did have a nice ride on Galbraith that included coffee and fig newtons. You guys just keep taking that knee.

Schedule says it was a bye week so there was no game to watch even if it wanted. I didn’t want, so I went for a little bike ride instead. Today’s loop ride was on Galbraith, a loop I’ve renamed from Goldilocks and the three bears to the Bye Week Loop.

[…] Oops, I didn’t watch the Seahawks vs. Cardinals game today, but I had my reasons.  One reason was that the game was apparently on Thursday, not today, silly me. The other, foremost reason that I didn’t watch the game was that, oh yeah, it’s still the take-a-knee 2017 NFL season. […]
